A treasury of talent and intellect
The Speak Up Award 2011
The Grand Lodge of WA is the organiser and principal sponsor of the Speak Up Award for Primary School Children in Perth, and for the first time, Mandurah. This public speaking competition is, aside from being a wonderful experience in the development of public speaking skills, researching skills and personal self confidence for the children, a simply wonderful event to watch.
Junior Master Chef pales into insignificance when compared to these remarkable young people. Their choice of subject embraces every conceivable emotion and evoke smiles, sadness, laughter and empathy from all those lucky enough to be in the audience.
There are a series of heats and a grand final where the young stars strut their intellectual stuff to the world. They are open to all who wish to attend as spectators and each event provides an uplifting experience and a great affirmation of one’s faith in our society’s future, in general and, in the integrity of today’s youth.
The 2011 Awards were completed in September but next year’s event is already on the drawing board so be sure not to miss out. Keep an eagle eye out for times and venues in future editions of the MB Magazine and the Monthly Bulletin. Everyone is very welcome to attend and we are always looking for volunteers to help out.
Winners of the 2011 Award were:
Grand Master's Choice
Gabrielle Loschi - Aranmore Catholic Primary School - "Choices"
Most Outstanding Speaker Runner Up
Teale Harrison - Karrinyup Primary School - "Dr Zeuss"
Best Researched Speech
Emily Lambert - Falcon Primary School - "Do Children Really Need to Fly?"
Most Outstanding Speaker
Juliette Borromei - St Anthony's School Greenmount - "Who is looking after your Grandparents?" (Julliette in action and being congratulated by her parents)
Congratulations to all who participated and sincere thanks to the organising committee for another wonderful event.
